One of the greatest feats in writing is the composing of an eye-catching title. Of the thousands of book titles I have seen during my lifetime, the one for the book under review here is a weighty contender for the grand champion for attention-grabbing! I asurre you that it is NOT an error: the author really does say the CURSE of compassion! And it is not a gimmick: the author means it seriously. To find out why you need to read the book, which I encourage you to do -- it tells quite an interesting story.
I will not give any more detail about the story except for what the rear jacket says, namely that it involves a boy changing into a fox. It reminds me in some ways of the tale by Paul Gallico of a man who was changed into a cat. The book is classified as young adult fantasy. The boy in the story, Stanley Maxell, is a high school freshman.
The prefatory poem is not a literary embellishment; it was composed by the author as an integral part of the tale.
This story is Stephen Alexander Hammett's first book. He is a student at the University of West Georgia who plans to go to Medical School. His newly published book is one of the latest additions to the burgeoning Coweta book publishing scene. He is the most recent member to join the Coweta Writers Group.
