The Thunderbird Returns -- In Outer Space !!

A Review of:

Cinnamon Turk The Adventures of Smalley Tremont Frederick, MD: Publish America, 2007)
                           96 pp   $16.95   ISBN-13: 9781424171118

When I was a boy, our favorite sports car was the Thunderbird. And, I remember in my later teen years being mad at Ford for changing it into a luxury car. There were many others who shared my feelings, such as the aficianado of the original -- the REAL -- Thunderbird I met in Riverdale, Georgia back in the eighties, who had acquired one of the real ones and was polishing it up in his driveway. What a treat that was!! It had been years since I had seen one and we had a nice chat and reminiscences about when we were boys.

Those memories came flooding back again today when I came across a children's science fiction story in which the hero tools around the galaxy and the time continua in a snazzy new super-advanced space-ship called the Thunderbird!! I swear I am not making this up!! I absolutely could not believe it -- but it is true. Here is an excerpt of the book provided by Amazon.com:
"
"Smalley Tremont sat facing forward on the observation deck of the VB-5 Thunderbird, the newest and fastest space cruiser ever built. With its engines revving at peak proficiency, the Thunderbird hovered before the gate to Time Continuum Strand No. 207, waiting for it to open. Smalley was watching the fiery, pulsating wall of the strand with timorous anxiety. Suddenly the gate opened, revealing a huge maw and the ship was sucked inside. Smalley heard Captain KeSouri say, 'Hunker down, Smalley, you’re in for the ride of your life!' "

Speaking of names, let us turn our attention to the author, Cinnamon Turk. Now that is an unusual name if I have ever heard one! Well, I hope I do not disappoint anyone by informing you that it is a pseudonym. The writer's real name is Peggy DeWine. And the book under review here is not the first one she has crafted with fast-paced suspense and nasty villains. Writing under another pseudonym, P J Renfroe, together with Lt. Col. James J. Dalton II, in the Year 2000 she wrote a legal/crime thriller called Almost A Hero.

And Peggy DeWine also aspires to heroic feats in real life. She actually is forming a group called Published Authors of Georgia which actually has as one of its goals getting the traditional New York City book publishers to publish regular Georgia writers so they will not have to resort to the POD companies, such as Publish America. Now THAT would be an accomplishment greater than just about anything ever imagined by even the most creative of fiction authors!! If she can pull that off, she should receive the Ultimate Super-Hero Author Award!!
