Are you ever too old to write a book? Timberline Davis from Carrollton does not think so! He is 87 years of age and has just written and published his second wild fantasy, The Land of Neglect, which is a sequel to his The Days of the Org, published last year.
This story, like his first, centers upon Gary and his wife Kate, but it is very different from the first. The first was on Earth in an idealized 1940s world. The second is on an Earth like place -- I guess it's a planet -- very sparsely populated by humans suffering attacks from the "Snakies", which can take over the bodies of humans, as in science fiction, but the deliverance which Gary provides comes from fantasy devices given to them by galactic personages. I cannot say much more without giving away the story. Like the first story, this one has a strangeness which is unlike anything else I have ever encountered in fantasy. This is because Timberline writes what he wants to write the way he wants to write it, not like what you would be told at a writers conference or in a writing course! It is very much his story!!
Speaking of that, if you want to read his actual story, centered on his experiences in World War II, you will not have long to wait because he has just completed writing that -- in a book entitled 13 -- which is now being readied for publication. After that he plans to write two more fantasies, with a co-author.
Now, book reviews are usually longer than this, but, you know what?? -- I have said all I wish to say so I shall sign off now by encouraging you to read this book.
